The Spring 2026 ERP 5000 Capstone Project is an interdisciplinary initiative that integrates enterprise systems with hands-on manufacturing education. In collaboration with MECH ENG 2653 Introduction to Manufacturing Processes, students design, configure, and implement an SAP S/4HANA ERP system to support a 3D Printing / Additive Manufacturing environment.
A distinctive advantage of this project is the ERP program’s self-hosted SAP environment, which provides direct system access, deeper configuration capability, and a live prototyping platform. This infrastructure enables students to work in a realistic implementation setting rather than a limited simulation environment.
ERP students configure key modules, including FI, CO, and MM, to support accounting, procurement, costing, and inventory processes, while Mechanical Engineering students connect shop-floor activities to enterprise data flows. The project mirrors a real-world SAP implementation lifecycle, from process analysis and configuration to testing and milestone showcases, with guidance from industry SAP and alumni mentors.
This living laboratory bridges manufacturing and enterprise systems, preparing students to lead digital transformation initiatives that integrate operations, accounting/finance, and analytics
