The North America and International Manufacturing Sustainability Competition is a global student competition jointly organized by HEC Montréal and SAP. University teams operate a virtual manufacturing company using SAP S/4HANA, one of the world’s leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, in a global marketplace and make real-time decisions that directly impact their company’s performance. Participants manage key manufacturing and supply chain activities, including product design and development, procurement planning, demand forecasting, production optimization, product costing, and supplier management in a live SAP S/4HANA ERP system.
The competition also emphasizes the balance between business performance and sustainability. Teams must analyze operational data, manage carbon emissions, monitor evolving market conditions, and adjust their strategies to remain competitive while maintaining efficient, responsible manufacturing operations in a dynamic, competitive, and highly interactive environment.
Missouri S&T’s ERP competition team put its classroom knowledge to the test in this realistic and highly interactive competition, building on the strong foundation developed through the university’s experiential learning and industry-relevant enterprise systems education.
By working directly with the SAP S/4HANA ERP system in a supply chain environment, students gain hands-on experience using the same integrated enterprise technology used by leading organizations worldwide. Through this experience, students develop practical skills and strategic insight into how finance, operations, and supply chain processes are integrated to support data-driven decision-making in modern enterprises.
Participation in the competition helps students build practical skills in:
SAP S/4HANA enterprise system operations
Business process integration across manufacturing and supply chains
Real-time data analysis and performance monitoring
Strategic decision-making in competitive markets
Team collaboration and cross-functional coordination
