As part of the competition, high school students – led by college students from Missouri Science & Technology and Washington University – will learn about Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), specifically how information technology can be used to advance business processes to achieve business objectives.  SAP ERP, the world's leading enterprise information system, used by more than 80% of Fortune 200 companies, will be used to give students the simulated experience of running their own companies like an IT pro at companies like Apple, Microsoft, Intel, Boeing, or Disney World.

Information Technology and Sustainability

Speaker Bio: 

Melissa Ruth is a graduate of Missouri S&T with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business and Management Systems, with minor degrees in both Leadership Psychology and Leadership Communication.   Since receiving her undergraduate degree, she has gained professional experience working in financial services, adult education/training, innovations, and project management with organizations like CitiFinancial, Missouri S&T, Rolla Public Schools, and Walmart.  In the Fall of 2010, she joined the Missouri S&T MBA program.  She has been active with the MBA Association; and in fact was the first Professional Development Officer for the organization.    

In May of 2011, Melissa rejoined Walmart Store Inc. as an MBA Corporate Intern in the Innovations area of the company.  Through that experience she obtained a full-time offer to join the company’s Talent Development organization as a Programs and Processes Manger, supporting the Compliance area.  In this role, Melissa is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of training solutions to 1.4 million Walmart U.S. associates (specifically in the areas of Health and Wellness, Financial Services, Record Retention, Privacy, Ethics, and Insurance Compliance).
